It always seems like I have to work harder and fight longer than everyone else around me for what I love and want to do.
The past few months have been tiring and sadly a bit discouraging for me. I graduated college with an Associate degree in Bible and have watched everyone I went to college with for the past four years start to get real jobs in their fields.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy for them all, but I just long for it to be my turn to live out my passions and my dreams. I don’t know if it’s just a 20’s thing or what, but I pretty much break down at least once a day. It’s hard.
I want to say my intent is never to be selfish, but I’m not perfect. I’m human and naturally want things in my time, not the Lord’s. It’s something I’m always going to have to work on, and that’s okay. Waiting on the Lord is really hard sometimes.
When we get so caught up in what we want and when we want it, we overlook the very truth that God knows what’s best for us. After all, God created us and takes great delight in us, so why do we let ourselves doubt that He knows what He’s doing?
“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” – Psalm 27:14
Instead of sulking in self-pity, let’s take this season of waiting as a call to action; a call to be of good courage. Courage is defined in many ways fearlessness, bravery, and strength are a few common ways, but my favorite is spirit. As we’re waiting on God, He calls us to be of good spirit.
God calls us to be of hope and anticipation during our time of waiting, not hopeless and stuck in discouragement. God calls us to draw near to Him during our time of waiting, not away from Him and wrapped up in ourselves.
The 3 main things to focus on to be of good courage are worship, prayer, and scripture.
Worship God for all He has done for you! Worship Him for his goodness, grace, and mercy. Praise Him for his understanding, comfort, and peace. God has blessed you with so much. Never cease to praise His holy name.
Praying in this kind of a season is one of the most difficult things to do, because it gets hard to find the words to pray and to keep your mind focused. This is the time to cry out to God! This is the time pray open, honest, and desperate prayers to God; surrendering to his ultimate will for your life.
Stand grounded in His Word, holding fast to the truth. Meditate and memorize scripture. His word is a light unto your path. Don’t let your heart grow numb. Let your heart be available to be strengthened by the Lord. You’re not waiting alone. God hasn’t left you to wait alone; He is there with you. God dances amidst the common; He is a relational God. He is holding us and loving us through every moment of our lives. So when there comes a time to wait on Him, remind yourself that he hasn’t left you, nor will he ever. He hasn’t up and left to go do something else – No. He is still there, working on your heart. The next time you find yourself in another season of waiting, take a moment to remember these simple truths to waiting and being of good courage. Let your soul find rest in knowing that the Lord is not finished with you and that waiting is a time of molding and shaping you into all God has called you to be.
Be of good courage, my friends!
