FAQ

FAQ

Why did you start your blog? I write about the moment I started SR here, but the full vision came together a bit later. I had realized that many of the lifestyle blogs I enjoyed were inspiring partly because of the products they were able to recommend. As a part-time student with several best friends working in low-paying service jobs, I realize that these blogs are inspiring, but their lifestyles can be unattainable. Furthermore, I am repeatedly inspired by minimalist bloggers such as Joshua Becker and Courtney Carver, who write to adult audiences who desire to simplify their lives. Simplicity Relished is for people a bit younger who desire to build a life already simplified down to the important things– without compromising too much on taste, uniqueness, diversity and style.

What kind of camera do you use? As you can probably tell, my photographs from older posts are somewhat higgledy-piggledy, and that is because I’ve used lots of image-capturing devices in the past. Recently I have been shooting with a Fuji X100S, a great option for those who do not like carrying large cameras.

Who takes pictures of you? My husband does! He’s a much better photographer than I am, and if he’s not using my Fuji (which was originally his), then he uses a Nikon D700.

On what platform do you host your blog? I recently switched from WordPress.com to WordPress.org. In keeping with the theme of this blog, I have not extensively customized or coded the appearance of my site.

How do you stay inspired for blog posts? Each day is filled with great moments to write about if we pay attention! I do tend to stick to my categories, but the Personal Posts category exists precisely for my freedom to reflect on anything that crosses my mind. My tip for bloggers who suffer from writer’s block is to start writing about something mundane, such as what you ate for lunch or your neighbor’s cat. More likely than not, it will morph into something interesting and worth reading (and if not, oh well!).

Can I advertise with you? Thank you for your interest! I love connecting with other bloggers and promoting work that I find inspiring. If you’re interested, please check out my page on collaboration.

Can I share your blog content? Absolutely– share away! And while you do, please give me full credit for my work with a link to my site.

How do you develop your recipes? I love to cook and eat, and for the past 5 years I’ve used cookbooks as guidelines and not rules. Most of the time when I cook, I improvise ingredients and season everything to taste. All of these recipes, unless otherwise linked, are quantities and ingredients in which I’ve discovered culinary harmony.

Other than blogging, what do you do? As noted in my about page, I am a private educator in Los Angeles. In May 2014 I completed my B.A. at Harvard where I studied American intellectual and religious history. After graduation I married my best friend of 6 years, spent time with family and moved down to Pasadena, CA where we plan to reside for the next season of our lives. We love to travel, volunteer, explore and drink lots of coffee. Finally, my free time is, and has always been, devoted to friends, family, community and God.

Tell me about your wedding. Aaron and I were married in San Francisco at the Asian Art Museum. It was incredible fun with an amazing group of people. You can read our vows in my post here! And check out all of our wedding photos in my wedding series roundup here!

What is your Myers-Briggs personality type? ENFJ– but I don’t believe in confinement 😉

Do you have any pets? We love our betta fish named Cornichon! And I would love to rescue a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. More on that later.
