The Royal Alcazar in Seville, Spain

January 8, 201622 Comments

alcazar-7298

Oh, the south of Spain. Romantic, vibrant, charming and irresistible. Where does one begin? It's a fascinating part of the world that integrates European, Islamic and Mediterranean cultures all at once. Our foray into this amazing corner of the world only lasted four days, but we packed a lot in. One of my favorite stops was the Royal Alcazar (Reales Alcázares de Sevilla). It had all the magic of Moorish architecture and Islamic art, but was so much calmer than the Alhambra in Granada. Every square inch of the Alcazar has been beautifully restored; it drips with detail upon detail unlike ...Continue Reading

Hello 2016: looking back and looking ahead

January 6, 201646 Comments

Did I miss the the Happy New Year gravy train? Despite being barely a week into 2016, I feel like I did. How quickly we move along these days-- and what's the rush, really? It seems as though it will be January for a while. So let me indulge in a little reflection. As I type this, the rain is falling heavily for the first time in a long time here in Southern California. The looming gray has kept the day dim and further clouded my sense of adjustment back to our regular routine. It feels as though we were only just wandering through the alleys of Morocco's medinas moments ago, and yet those ...Continue Reading

5 Ingredient Tomato Sauce

September 25, 201414 Comments

When I first started cooking, I would overcomplicate everything. A dash of this, a pinch of that, and pretty soon I could hardly keep track of my own recipes. While I'm still a huge fan of herbs and spices in tomato sauce, I realized that I don't have a simple go-to recipe of my own; it's ...Continue Reading

Why Relationships are like French Macarons

September 24, 201417 Comments

These are French macarons. A macaron is a cookie sandwich with an almond-flour shell and ganache center. They are absolutely delicious and notoriously difficult to make. There is a reason why almost every macaron recipe is slightly different. ...Continue Reading

Accessorized Black and White

September 23, 201416 Comments

When in doubt, my go-to outfit is black and white. It's so chic, classic, and easy to pull off-- the quintessential desk-to-dinner ensemble. Some might say "no white after Labor Day," but the black and white combo is basically its own color, right? ...Continue Reading

Juicing 101

September 22, 201419 Comments

The concept of healthful juicing has been around for some time now. I'm not talking about Treetop Apple Juice, Welch's Grape Juice or sugary Jamba Juice; this is real, fresh, fibrous and vibrantly colorful fruit and vegetable juice. In this post I'll discuss what juicing is, selecting a juicing ...Continue Reading

Fun Sunday Five: Vol 3

September 21, 2014Leave a Comment

Is anyone else suffering from a sweet tooth? I think the advent of fall has given me a craving for all things apple, pumpkin and maple syrup. What I really want to do this Sunday is find some freshly fallen leaves to crunch in. Alas-- perhaps those of you who live further north can do it for me! ...Continue Reading

How To Detox Your Social Media

September 19, 20145 Comments

We've all known that person who has 1000+ unopened emails in their inbox. Or, we've been that person. We also know folks who have so many Facebook friends that they actually don't remember half of them. Or, we've been that person, too. ...Continue Reading

Big Sur, California

September 18, 201411 Comments

Driving down from the Monterey Peninsula to the Central Coast is a little bit like a walk into Narnia. There's a definite resemblance to the world from which you've come: crashing waves, endless ocean and a cold breeze. But as Highway One winds its way up the cliffs that overlook the Pacific, you ...Continue Reading

A View from 17 Mile Drive, Pebble Beach

Carmel and Pebble Beach, California

September 17, 20146 Comments

As a child of the San Francisco Bay Area, one of my favorite road trips was driving down to the Monterey Peninsula. It was such bliss to be by the Pacific ocean--cold, windy and salty-- and to be far away from the worries and stresses of life at home (yes, I was stressed even back then). After a day ...Continue Reading

A Few Blogging Tips Around the Web

September 16, 20144 Comments

As a relatively new blogger, I'm constantly looking for good advice and inspiration around the web. While there is so much information out there, something about these few sources just puts them, in my opinion, above the rest. BUT! Advice is only useful when it answers the reader's questions, right? ...Continue Reading

Warm Fall Forecast

September 16, 201411 Comments

I am usually the first to welcome fall with open arms. The smell of apple cider, the color of pumpkins, the sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet-- all autumn cliches that I just can't resist. But this autumn in Southern California won't be like the ones I grew accustomed to in New England. ...Continue Reading

Soba Noodles in Miso Soup

September 15, 20142 Comments

I am obsessed with Japanese cuisine. The flavors are clean, fresh and somehow heartwarming: tranquil on a hot day and cozy when it's cold outside. Flavors are so agreeable that many Japanese dishes have been assimilated not only to the American palate but also various Asian cuisines. But most ...Continue Reading

Here's the second round of Fun Sunday Five (see vol. 1 here). Despite the fact that it was 90 degrees in Pasadena yesterday, I want to celebrate the advent of fall this weekend! Have a beautiful Sunday! ...Continue Reading

5 Reasons to Go the Distance

Long-distance relationships are hard. It is so easy to feel frustrated, misunderstood, and generally disconnected. So what makes a long-distance relationship worthwhile? Should you stay in it? Should you go your separate ways? ...Continue Reading

Braids, Boots, and my Project 333 Roundup

September 12, 20142 Comments

I was so excited when it rained this morning. As a New England-Los Angeles transplant, it is taking a while for me to adjust to the dry heat of such overbearing sunlight. I've also been wondering what might happen to my fall-winter wardrobe; if I practice what I've been preaching throughout this ...Continue Reading
