If Pinned, Make.

December 12, 2014

If Pinned, Make | Simplicity Relished

Have I spent hours of my life pinning things and scrolling through Pinterest? Yes, guilty as charged! But how many times do I go back and make that recipe, plan that trip, implement those blogging tips, or attempt that DIY? Not as often as I should!

You see, if we’re keen on not letting our stuff pile up in storage boxes or the garage, we ought also to use the inspiration we’ve collected. Without use, they just waste away on social media– waiting for us to live a different life, a life in which we have time to do the things we want to.

(Need to detox your social media, by the way? Check this out.)

So, how many of my pinned recipes have I actually made? Well, at least one! Remember last week when I said I wanted to make these vegan salted caramel peanut butter truffles?

I made them! And they were amazing. Look!!!

If Pinned, Make

What have you been saving or pinning that you’ve been hoping to get around to? What are the best Pinterest projects that you’ve completed? I’d love to know! Happy weekend, friends!

Really inspiring! How often do I actually go to pinterest and look through my photos rather than just pin away across the internet? Thanks for reminding me WHY I’m pinning these photos to begin with ^_^

  • Rachel Keeth

I think I’m one of the few people who regularly uses Pinterest for projects. I’ve seen many people say they never get around to it, but I get too excited not to use it. For instance I often use my art boards for inspiration, my style board for inspiration when I’m out shopping, and recipes and craft projects. Just last night I made some delicious chocolate cookies that I found on there for my friend’s Christmas package.

    those truffles look simply awesome!

  • Ms. Jeannie and Her Closet

Hello wonderful and sweet Daisy! I am sorry I missed a couple of you amazing posts. I have been super busy and now I am trying to catch up. I will admit I am not much of a Pinterest person but have been telling myself that I really need to get on it. I hear so many people talking about all the wonderful ideas they always get from Pinterest and actually my daughter, who got home from college today, mentioned to me that she had gathered a few recipes from Pinterest that she wanted to try to make while she is home for the Holidays. So I will let you know what we do first:-) I love the fact that on your post you made a point about not only pinning but actually executing as well as with everything else in life. Thanks so much for sharing. Blessings and lots of xoxo going your way, Jeannette

Hahah yeah I totally know what you mean. Half of the stuff I pin are DIY things I never got around to do. But other stuff are there just for inspiration like makeup or hair 🙂

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Ooh I love using makeup and hair inspirations too!

  • STYLE DELIGHTS

Wow..u did it what we all think and pin! LOL! I need to roll up my sleeves and try few recipes I have on my bookmark! Love how ur recipe turned out! Hope you are having a wonderful day!

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Oh you should definitely try a recipe, Jyoti! Pinterest can be so useful 🙂

  • Mili

This is a very good point, I have a bagillion recipes bookmarked and make about 10% of them. These truffles look really good, but then again I love anything with caramel in it 😉

    Mili

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Thanks Mili! You would love the truffle recipe!!

  • Elmira Vatsni

Yummy:) I rarely pin. Actually I think looking at things like that( other than recipes) tends to make me a copier and kills my own creativity. It is not that I never do it but I do it less than most people around me but then again that leaves me with my strange taste and weird stuff around my house, and even my weirder wardrobe, haha!

Hahah I love your taste Elmira! Good to strike out on your own anyway– too many people choose to copy others instead!

  • Denise Kokinis

I definitely do this! I love finding things on pinterest but I almost rarely act on any of them and it is really such a shame! Although, I do like to look up and use some of my own photos on pinterest! Definitely appreciate this post! It makes me want to go back through and do a bit more digging and rereading!

Haha so glad this resonated with you, Denise! I love using Pinterest when I I know I’m actually going to make those recipes 🙂

  • ashortblonde

I have been guilty of this but I also have made things from my pinned recipes or used an outfit as inspiration. I try to stay balanced! 😉

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

That’s great! Pinterest should definitely be functional.

  • Jenna Griffin

Love this! I have reallllly had good intentions on going and making or baking some of the pins I’ve pinned…but it just doesn’t happen. I really do need to clean things up! Also, my friend Anne over at Anne in Residence blog does a pin to present linkup, and I think you could totally link up with post! Check it out! The next one is this Thursday.

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Thank you Jenna! And thanks so much for sharing that linkup. I’ll definitely check it out!

  • Pardon My Obsession

Great article, very inspiring 🙂 And God, you must be the best of cooks !

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Thanks!! And haha, I do love cooking 🙂

  • Stephanie @Sustaining the Powe

Some friends and I have started having Pinterest parties where we pick 3 pins and make them along with a recipe. It’s been the beat girls nights ever! I really do need to actually make some of the million recipes I’ve pinned though.

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

That’s such a good idea Stephanie!! I should get some friends together and do the same 🙂

  • Rachel G

I don’t even look at crafts on blogs or pinterest anymore ever since I had to give up my crafting and sewing equipment when we moved. Someday, someday! 😛 Blogging tips I tend to read pretty thoroughly and implement, because without craft stuff, blogging has become my #1 hobby!

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Yes, some blogging tips I’ve found on Pinterest are really awesome. Someday I hope you can start crafting again!

  • Mikéla Davelyn

This is so true! It’s easy to lose track of time on pinterest, but is hard to spend the same amount of time actually creating. Thanks for the inspiration! 🙂

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

So glad this resonated with you Mikela! Thank you for stopping by! 🙂

  • Jana Tolman

This is such a great reminder! Thank you for sharing this. 🙂

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

      Thanks Jana!

  • Samantha@Elah Tree

Pinning food is my favorite! I use pinterest for lots of finding different dinner recipes! 🙂

  • shannon

Those look absolutely delicious! And you are so right, I’m completely guilty of pinning and never doing anything…I rarely even look at my boards! I think you’ve inspired me to try something this weekend! Happy Friday Daisy!

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Exactly! So often I’ll pin something and then completely forget about it. I hope you did try something this weekend, or some time over the holidays 🙂

  • Bree @ imperfectvessel.com

High five! I’m impressed that you went ahead and created a recipe from Pinterest. Honestly, I think I’ve maybe made five out of the hundreds I’ve pinned. Why do we do that? Thanks for the motivation to actually put forth some effort to create, do, dig in to something that I’ve pinned instead of spending another 20 minutes pinning more things that will only collect dust in the web-o-sphere!

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Thank you Bree! So glad you enjoyed this post. I hope you’ll make something from Pinterest sometime soon 😉

  • Alison Jeanine

I used to feel like: what is the actual point of Pinterest? Am I ever really going to use any of these things? Once I started using it as a place to collect recipes I would actually make (not just ones I thought others would like/pin) it became like a recipe folder & now when I’m looking for something new to make to dinner I can go right to my foodie board and have an ingredients list for shopping in 2 minutes! It’s all about how you pin, not what you pin haha! 🙂 Xo, Alison

    http://www.simplyfairbyalisonjeanine.com

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Yes!!!!!! Absolutely, you said it! It’s about how you use Pinterest! So many of us use it to collect things we don’t use. I love that you do use it! I’ve loved making recipes I’ve collected over time 🙂

  • Kiki

When I read this title, all I could think about was the movie Field of Dreams. (; These look delicious. I don’t even want to talk about the shame that is my Pinterest. I’m like wow I’ve pinned 5k things I’ll never ever do. haha. Have a great weekend Daisy!

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Hahaha. I hope you’ll pick one of those 5k pins and make one of them 😉

  • Shireen

I haven’t really got into Pinterest, yet. I am trying but honestly haven’t got the time to sit and go through it. Between the blog and family time, it’s hard to find time to do anything else. I do hope to be better with time management soon but for now, I’m just winging it. LOL!

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

There’s no need to hang out on Pinterest if you’re not interested! I think that social media can take over our lives… better to spend time with your family, Shireen!

  • Gina Alyse

I definitely resonate with this! I loved what you said about how things can pile up, waiting for us to live a different life, one where we can do the things we want to do. WOW, that’s some powerful, stuff, girl. I am definitely a Pinterest gal, and while I do pin many recipes & DIYS, I also have travel boards and design boards, that are more like visual inspirations. While I’m not actually going to travel to all the places on my Pinterest, I think if I spend more time planning and saving for trips, it would be more productive. Travel boards though can be so much fun, though! 🙂 I appreciate this post, Daisy!

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Aw, thanks Gina! 🙂 I think many times we’re willing to pin but not make, because we’re sort of stashing things away for a non-specific future! So glad you enjoyed this post Gina. I love travel boards too 🙂

  • Sarah @ 12 Twenty Seven

I can count on one hand how many pins I’ve followed through on! Thanks for the encouragement, Daisy! PS, those truffles look AMAZING! 🙂

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

      Ah thanks Sarah!

  • Nabihah

I’m so guilty of excessive pinning and not enough doing! I can’t remember the last time I pinned a project that I completed since, as of late, I’ve mostly been pinning outfits and make up looks I like. I need to start pinning recipes cus I’m always going on about how I want to cook more but don’t have good ideas!

    thesundaywardrobe.blogspot.com

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

It’s so satisfying to actually pull up an idea and make it! And I enjoy pinning outfits too 🙂

  • L’amour de Juliette

Oh, I will have to try these!

They’re so good– you’ll love them. Thank you for stopping by Juliette!

  • Charity

I’ve been neglecting my Pinterest board for awhile but just this week I have cleaned it up and deleted the pins that I know will never happen! I don’t spend too much time on Pinterest but always love the inspiration 😉 Those truffles look A-mazing. TGIF!

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

Thanks Charity! And cleaning up pinterest is such a good idea, there is so much clutter in my feed!

  • Amanda @ Rhyme & Ribbons

    Oof. They sound great! x

    • Daisy @ Simplicity Relished

They’re amazing, you’ll love them Amanda!
