When I was 17, I traveled to Greece with my high school. Due to my academic foray into the Classics, I was able to look at columns and rocks and actually know– if only just a bit more than the average tourist– what it all meant.
Wandering through ancient ruins in Europe is a bit like entering a thrift store. Things of great historical significance rest among modern, unimportant signs and spaces. And if you don’t look closely enough, you might just miss something (or step on it) en route to the t-shirt stand.
I was not a natural shutterbug, so of course I squandered the opportunity to take truly good photographs. But, since Greece is so photogenic, I can almost forgive myself.
For those who wonder whether the Greek isles are all they’re cracked up to be, they most certainly are! But, I would suggest that beyond the iconic blue-and-white coastal landscape for which Greece has become so famous, there is so much more to this destination.
So– if Greece is in the books for you– read the history, find a guide, linger at the museums, taste the food, and meet the locals. This is NOT your typical seaside resort vacation. Enjoy the (amateur) photos!

If this isn’t your first time visiting my blog, then you’ll notice that my blog design is brand new. The talented and amazing Kelly who writes The Lady Errant is the mastermind behind this new look.
Kelly and I have been “blog friends” since last fall when we stumbled upon each other’s blogs. I thoroughly enjoy Kelly’s authentic, thoughtful, eloquent and entertaining writing style– and of course I’ve since discovered that she and I have a lot in common! I’ve loved her posts about feminism, expat life, blogging, and Asian-American identity.
So, when she announced that she would be designing and selling themes, of course I was overjoyed. I was even MORE thrilled when she asked if I’d like to help publicize by putting together a design giveaway.
