Sometimes the best statement to make is a simple one. This is why I love wearing bold colors in the evening when other people might go for black. Not only am I able to use pieces that have been relegated to daywear only, but I also love that bright colors always stand out in a crowd. So spice up your going-out get-up with unexpected pops of color!
Something I’ve learned as I continue my take on Project 333 (final Project post is on Friday!) is how to really let my smaller wardrobe shine. The eleven pieces I selected were special to me– but not that special. Now that I’ve worn and re-worn them for multiple occasions, my appreciation for them has risen, not fallen.
I used to see this yellow dress (which my husband bought for me in Venice many years ago) as a “I’m lazy today” outfit. But now I’ve come to love everything about it: its tawny marigold hue, the empire waist, and how easily I can wear it for day and for night. And I’ve found that, in some cases, quantity can kill quality. It can even make wardrobe creativity difficult. If I had the option of wearing five other dresses somewhat like this one, I probably wouldn’t love it so much, or try to style it in different ways. (Click here to see how I styled this dress for day!)
Okay, enough lecturing! I paired this dress with a pair of Tory Burch kitten heels (similar here) and Ippolita earrings (here). I love the way that mini pumps and dangling earrings can add polish without being too flashy. I never want my accessories to overwhelm. It’s just dinner after all!
And finally, my hair! Those of you who know me are aware that I’m not great with hair, but I’m learning, and was proud of myself for pulling this off. This “fancy” pony-tail is the perfect understatement to pair with a simple elegant outfit.
