Is chia seed jam all the rage or what! It’s a brilliant idea– to use the natural gooey texture that results from combining chia seeds and moisture– as a way to give a fruit spread all of its gooey potential.
Since strawberries are in season, I decided to try my hand at making my own chia seed jam, with a twist: lime! This spread is so delicious and tastes a bit like a strawberry margarita.Â
This jam is:
Tangy.
Sweet.
Spreadable.
Versatile.
Healthy.
Furthermore, strawberries are actually better for you cooked; the cooking process releases the phytonutrients in the redness of the fruit (source: Eating on the Wild Side, one of my favorite food books). Win!
And the best news? You can make this jam without any sugar at all. That’s right; say goodbye to store-bought artificial jams because this stuff is amazing!
So spread this stuff on homemade breads, mix it into yogurt, or eat it straight for a tangy dessert. It’s surprisingly good for you; just look at the ingredients list!
Strawberry Lime Chia Seed Jam
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups strawberries, roughly chopped.
- Juice and zest of one lime
- 2 tablespoons chia seeds
- 2 tablespoons honey
Directions
In a small saucepan over medium heat, cook the strawberries, lime juice, zest and honey until the strawberries are tender, about 5 minutes. Add the chia seeds and cook until a gel-like substance is formed. Add a splash of water if the mixture appears too dry. Taste and add more honey for sweetness, if desired.
Hahah Hope you love it, Erica! Farmer’s market strawberries are the best!
Absolutely! Thanks for stopping by Ashley!
Oooh sounds good! I’ll try it! 🙂
You cut up fresh strawberries, put them in a bowl pour a half gallon of whole milk over them and a cup of sugar. You let it sit for a day and then eat it. It’s quite yummy.. you should try it.
You had me at “strawberry margarita.” This looks beyond yummy! I pinned it and will be trying this weekend…I just got beautiful strawberries at my farmer’s market, so this is perfect!!

Thanks Alicia!! Hope you love it.
Hahaha I know right?! Chia seeds are kinda weird, but they’re super healthy and so useful giving things a gel-like texture. I hope you try this; it’s so yummy and a great jam/jelly alternative!
Thanks Shireen! I hope your husband loves it! 🙂
Thanks girl! 🙂
Thanks girl! It’s super easy– and with chia seeds you don’t have to buy fruit pectin (the stuff that usually gives jams their texture)
I’ve not had strawberries and milk… I’ve had strawberries and cream? 🙂
Ooh you should definitely try chia– they’re really versatile and so so good for you!
Ah thanks Nabihah! And yes, strawberries are better cooked! I was surprised as well. 🙂
This sounds incredibly delicious! Thanks for sharing, Daisy (:

AH! This looks amazing. I am definitely making this today! I can’t wait to try it. Thanks so much for sharing 🙂
Oh. My. Goodness. Yum! And I LOVE that there’s no refined sugar in it. Fruit is so sweet on its own, especially when it’s cooked down. I have to admit I was a little skeptical when I saw this subject line in my email, but now I have to try it because it looks so tasty!! Nice photos, by the way! I’m trying to think of other variations as well . . . lemon, mango, pineapple. Mmmm, summer. 🙂
So easy and yummy! I personally am not a fan of jams but my husband loves them! Will give this a go, Daisy!

That sounds so yummy! I definitely want to try it. I love anything and everything strawberries. Have you ever had strawberries and milk? It’s a southern sort of thing.
Wow! That looks really good. I haven’t tried chia seeds yet, but everyone seems to adore them.
That’s so interesting that strawberries are better for you cooked! Usually it is the other way around!

This looks so good! My mom and I were saying how we want to go strawberry picking and make jam but she didn’t like how much sugar we’d have to put into it. This is perfect! I also didn’t know strawberries were better for you when cooked, I always thought raw is generally better!
